11 Introduction to Energy Energy is stored work Energy is the ability to get work done Energy ist necessary to get things moved, heated up etc. Energy can be gathered from different sources: coal, crude oil, uranium Energy can be dissipated/converted into usable forms of energy like heat, light etc.
12 Units of Energy For example: flap of a fly = 1 Joule (FOTOFliege) burning match = 1000 Joule (FOTO) Motor of a car = 300 MJ per hour = 0,3 Billion Joule 1 Joule = 1 Ws 1 kwh = 1000 Ws = 3600 kj 1 ton of hard coal = 8141 kwh = 30 GJ = 1 Billion Joule
