In order for your script to remain anonymous do NOT use your name when completing the tasks. Document A Heiß begehrt: Ferienjobs Ferien sind zum Faulenzen da? Nein, das muss nicht sein. Viele Schülerinnen und Schüler, aber auch viele Studenten suchen in den Ferien einen Job. Und das hat gute Gründe. A B Meist ist es das Geld, das lockt, um den Lebensunterhalt, den Führerschein, eine Musikanlage, oder die neueste Designermode zu bezahlen. Cornelia, 18 Jahre, berichtet: Ich versuche mein verdientes Geld zu sparen. Es gibt nur ein Problem : Ich liebe teure Designerklamotten. Zweimal im Monat kaufe ich mir eine Hose oder einen Pullover von Boss oder Gucci. Dann fühle ich mich gut. Und in meiner Clique kommt das sehr gut an. Auch Olaf, 16 Jahre und Schüler in Hamburg, kauft sich teure Kleidung wie viele seiner Freunde aus der Clique. Wenn du die falsche Kleidung trägst, bist du draußen, sagt er. Ein Ferienjob erlaubt auch erste Einblicke in den Traumberuf. Oft verändert sich dann allerdings die Einstellung zu diesem Beruf. Es zeigt sich, dass der angebliche Traumberuf gar kein Traumberuf ist. Ein weiterer pädagogischer Aspekt ist, dass Jugendliche lernen, was ihre Bedürfnisse wirklich kosten und wie lange sie dafür arbeiten müssen. Michael, 19 Jahre, meint dazu: Eigenes Geld zu verdienen ist ein tolles Gefühl. Ich lerne mit Geld umzugehen und liege meinen Eltern nicht auf der Tasche. Es ist schön, etwas unabhängig zu sein C Nach der Umfrage einer Arbeitsgruppe zum Thema Kinder- und Jugendarbeit machen Schüler und Studenten am liebsten folgende Jobs: An der Kasse einer Tankstelle arbeiten, Zeitungen austragen, Baby sitten, bei McDonalds, im Kino oder Theater arbeiten. Im Allgemeinen arbeiten Jugendliche gerne dort, wo man viele Leute treffen kann. 20 CONTINUED

3 GERMAN SYLLABUS B LANG0G02 and LANG1G12 Page 2 D E F G Vermittelt werden Ferienjobs meist durch Beziehungen: Papa fragt in seinem Betrieb nach oder Nachbar Heinrich sucht eine Aushilfe für seinen Kiosk. Oder man geht persönlich bei Firmen in der Umgebung vorbei, um sich nach einem Job zu erkundigen. Manchmal lohnt es sich sogar, eine Bewerbung zu schreiben. Sucht die Firma dann jemanden, kann sie auf die Bewerbung zurückgreifen. Cornelia schaut auch oft in Zeitungen nach: Ich arbeite meist an der Kasse. Von den Jobs habe ich in der Zeitung oder in Anzeigenblättern erfahren. Dort annoncieren viele, die Aushilfen suchen. Wolfgang von Oyen vom Arbeitsamt Köln sagt: Die besten Chancen hat, wer sich frühzeitig um einen Job kümmert und selbst die Initiative ergreift. Manchmal finden junge Leute auch einen Ferienjob über das Arbeitsamt. Dies ist allerdings für Schüler schwieriger als für Studenten. Den Grund nennt Wolfgang van Oyen: Die Unternehmen nehmen lieber Studenten. Sie können mehr arbeiten, da die Semesterferien über drei Monate gehen. Und sie verfügen über mehr Kenntnisse, zum Beispiel im Bereich EDV, oder sie haben bereits den Führerschein. Schüler unter 18 Jahren zu beschäftigen ist viel aufwändiger, weil die Gesetze zu ihrem Schutz zu berücksichtigen sind. Gerade in Städten, wo viele Studenten wohnen, ist die Konkurrenz für Schüler also ziemlich groß. Das Jugendarbeitsschutz-Gesetz gibt in der Tat die Regeln vor. Wer unter 15 Jahre alt ist und noch zur Schule geht, darf laut Gesetz nicht arbeiten, denn er gilt als Kind. In Deutschland ist Kinderarbeit generell verboten. Nur bei Ferienjobs werden unter bestimmten Bedingungen Ausnahmen gemacht. Kinder dürfen dann zum Beispiel Zeitungen austragen, in der Landwirtschaft aushelfen, Baby sitten oder beim Film, im Theater oder in der Werbung arbeiten. Aber auch diese Jobs sind nur maximal zwei Stunden täglich erlaubt. Ab dem 15. Geburtstag dürfen Schüler in den Ferien täglich acht Stunden arbeiten, für maximal vier Wochen. Aber auch dann ist nicht jede Arbeit erlaubt. Akkordarbeit zum Beispiel und alle Bereiche, die gefährlich sein können, sind verboten. Trotz aller Gesetze hat fast jeder bisher noch einen Job gefunden.
