3 Informationen zu SNB-Statistiken April 03 Zahlungsbilanz 4. Quartal 0 und Jahr 0 4. Quartal 0 Der Ertragsbilanzüberschuss stieg im Vergleich zum Vorjahresquartal um 7 Mrd. auf Mrd. Franken. Bestimmend dafür waren die Erträge aus schweizerischen Direktinvestitionen im Ausland, die um 5 Mrd. auf Mrd. Franken zunahmen. Im Aussenhandel mit Waren und Diensten legten die Exporte im Vergleich mit dem Vorjahresquartal um 4% und die Importe um 3% zu, der Einnahmenüberschuss stieg um Mrd. auf 5 Mrd. Franken. Dabei erhöhte sich der Einnahmenüberschuss im Warenhandel, derjenige im Dienstleistungshandel ging leicht zurück. Bei den laufenden Übertragungen blieb der Ausgabenüberschuss stabil ( Mrd. Franken). Im Kapitalverkehr resultierte ein Nettokapitalexport von 40 Mrd. Franken, verglichen mit einem Nettokapitalimport von 6 Mrd. Franken im Vorjahresquartal. Massgebend waren im 4. Quartal 0 die Nettokapitalexporte bei den Direktinvestitionen (9 Mrd. Franken), im Kreditverkehr der Geschäftsbanken (4 Mrd. Franken) sowie bei den Währungsreserven (5 Mrd. Franken). Jahr 0 Der Ertragsbilanzüberschuss belief sich auf 80 Mrd. Franken und war damit um 3 Mrd. Franken höher als im Vorjahr. Der grösste Teil des Anstiegs entfiel auf die Kapitaleinkommen, deren Einnahmenüberschuss um 9 Mrd. auf 48 Mrd. Franken zunahm. Ausschlaggebend dafür waren die höheren Einnahmen aus schweizerischen Direktinvestitionen im Ausland. Der Einnahmenüberschuss im Aussenhandel mit Waren nahm um Mrd. auf 6 Mrd. Franken zu, da die Einnahmen aus Exporten stärker stiegen als die Ausgaben für Importe. Im Aussenhandel mit Diensten sank der Einnahmenüberschuss hingegen um 3 Mrd. auf 43 Mrd. Franken, da sich die Ausgaben für Importe stärker erhöhten als die Einnahmen aus Exporten. Der traditionelle Ausgabenüberschuss bei den laufenden Übertragungen ging um 3 Mrd. auf 9 Mrd. Franken zurück, wodurch sich der Ertragsbilanzüberschuss entsprechend erhöhte. Die Devisenkäufe der Nationalbank prägten den Kapitalverkehr im Jahr 0: Auf Transaktionsbasis gerechnet ergaben sich bei den Währungsreserven Kapitalexporte von 75 Mrd. Franken (0: 43 Mrd. Franken). Bei den Direktinvestitionen resultierten Nettokapitalexporte von 38 Mrd. Franken (0: 3 Mrd. Franken), hauptsächlich weil die Unternehmen in der Schweiz ihre Beteiligungen im Ausland ausbauten. Den Kapitalexporten der Nationalbank und bei den Direktinvestitionen standen per Saldo Kapitalimporte im Kredit- und Einlagengeschäft der Banken von 58 Mrd. Franken gegenüber (0: 49 Mrd. Franken). Zudem ergaben sich auch aus dem Kreditverkehr der Nationalbank und aus den Portfolioinvestitionen Nettokapitalimporte (3 Mrd. bzw. 4 Mrd. Franken). Insgesamt resultierte im Kapitalverkehr ein Nettokapitalexport von 04 Mrd. Franken, verglichen mit 43 Mrd. Franken im Vorjahr. Einstellung der Publikation der Dynamic Factor Inflation (DFI) Die Dynamic Factor Inflation (DFI) ist ein Trendinflationsmass für die jährliche Teuerungsrate gemäss Landesindex der Konsumentenpreise (LIK). Sie basiert auf einer grossen Anzahl von nationalen wie internationalen nominalen und realwirtschaftlichen Variablen sowie Finanzmarktdaten, aus denen mit Hilfe einer Faktoranalyse der gemeinsame Trend extrahiert wird. Dabei wird ein möglichst breites makroökonomisches Umfeld abgebildet. Als Trendinflationsmass zeigt die DFI, ob ein Zustand anziehender oder fallender Teuerungsraten herrscht und ob in Kürze ein Richtungswechsel zu erwarten ist. Folglich erlaubt bei der DFI vor allem der Verlauf Rückschlüsse auf die zugrunde liegende Trendinflation, wogegen ihrem Niveau keine spezielle Bedeutung zuzumessen ist. Im Zuge der Finanzkrise ist das Niveau der DFI volatiler geworden. Während sich der Verlauf der Kurve nicht änderte und die Kernaussage unverändert blieb, unterlag das Niveau grösseren Aufwärts- und Abwärtsbewegungen, die sich schwer interpretieren liessen. Mit der aktuell beobachteten erhöhten Volatilität bietet die DFI, insbesondere bei einem Vergleich mit traditionellen Kerninflationsraten, somit Raum für Fehlinterpretationen. Aus diesem Grund hat sich die SNB entschlossen, die Publikation der DFI (Tabelle O5) einzustellen. Vorläufige Schätzung. Ein ausführlicher Bericht zur Zahlungsbilanz 0 erscheint Ende August 03. 4 Information on SNB statistics April 03 Swiss Balance of Payments: Q4 0 and review of the year 0 Q4 0 The current account surplus widened by CHF 7 billion to CHF billion from the year-back quarter. This increase was primarily attributable to income from Swiss direct investment abroad, which went up by CHF 5 billion to CHF billion. In foreign trade in goods and services, exports increased by 4% and imports by 3% compared to the year-earlier quarter, and the receipts surplus rose by CHF billion to CHF 5 billion. The receipts surplus in goods trade rose while that in trade in services saw a slight decline. As to current transfers, the surplus of expenses remained stable (CHF billion). The financial account yielded a net capital outflow of CHF 40 billion, compared with a net capital inflow of CHF 6 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Net capital outflows for direct investment (CHF 9 billion), commercial bank lending (CHF 4 billion), and reserve assets (CHF 5 billion) were decisive in the fourth quarter of 0. Review of the year 0 The current account surplus amounted to CHF 80 billion, exceeding the 0 level by CHF 3 billion. The receipts surplus from investment income accounted for the bulk of the increase, rising by CHF 9 billion to CHF 48 billion. The decisive factor for this rise was the higher receipts from Swiss direct investment abroad. The receipts surplus from foreign trade in goods went up by CHF billion to CHF 6 billion as a result of receipts for exports growing more than expenses for imports. In contrast, in foreign trade in services, the receipts surplus declined by CHF 3 billion to CHF 43 billion due to expenses for imports expanding more than receipts for exports. The traditional expenses surplus from current transfers declined by CHF 3 billion to CHF 9 billion, with the current account surplus rising accordingly. In 0, the financial account was shaped by the foreign exchange purchases of the Swiss National Bank (SNB). In reserve assets, outflow of capital totalled CHF 75 billion (0: CHF 43 billion) on a transaction basis. Direct investment recorded a net capital outflow of CHF 38 billion (0: CHF 3 billion), largely due to companies in Switzerland increasing their participations abroad. In contrast to the capital outflows of the SNB and direct investment, there was a net inflow from the banks lending and deposit business totalling CHF 58 billion (0: CHF 49 billion). Net capital inflows were also registered for the SNB s lending business (CHF 3 billion) and for portfolio investment (CHF 4 billion). Overall, the financial account posted a net capital outflow of CHF 04 billion, as against CHF 43 billion in the previous year. Issue of dynamic factor inflation (DFI) series to cease Dynamic factor inflation (DFI) is a measure of the trend in the annual rate of inflation according to the national consumer price index (CPI). It is based on a large number of national and international variables from the nominal and real economy, as well as financial market data, from which the common trend is extracted using factor analysis. The widest possible macroeconomic environment is reproduced. As a measure of the inflation trend, DFI shows whether a situation of rising or decreasing inflation rates predominates and whether a change in direction may be expected. Consequently, conclusions on the underlying inflation trend can be derived above all from movements in DFI, while no special significance should be attached to the level. The level of DFI has become more volatile in the wake of the financial crisis. While the curve and the core information remained unchanged, the level of DFI experienced was subject to significant movements up and down, which were difficult to interpret. Therefore, given the currently observed increased levels of volatility, DFI could lead to misinterpretations, especially in comparison with traditional core inflation rates. For this reason, the SNB has decided to stop issuing the DFI series (table O5). Provisional estimate. A detailed report on the 0 balance of payments will be published at the end of August 03. Breaks in series In the long series published on the website, the smallest possible time units (e.g. monthly) are used for the presentation of both data and breaks in the series, with the latter being highlighted in colour and described. In the printed versions, larger time units (e.g. annual) are used for presenting some of the older statistics. This means that, in some cases, only the period in which the series break occurred can be indicated, and the long series on the website must be consulted in order to ascertain the precise timing of the break. Rounding differences The figures in the tables are rounded. Where rounded figures are used in calculations (totals, balances, rates of change, shares), deviations from the exact values can result.
